What Makes a School Psychologist's Services Unique?

The school psychologist uses knowledge about psychology, education, and health issues in a collaborative, problem solving framework. School psychology is the only discipline to prepare its professionals to understand and integrate psychology, education, and health perspectives in regard to children in schools.

The school psychologist is skilled in problem-solving techniques that use data to develop, implement and evaluate interventions for a wide range of problems, such as health, learning, emotional and behavioral concerns, teacher concerns for a whole classroom, family issues, and school and district wide policies and programs.

The school psychologist collects data and analyzes the complex factors impacting a problem situation, examining available resources, collaboratively developing realistic goals, and assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of progress toward those goals.

The school psychologist uses a systematic approach to problem-solving to address the health and educational needs of children and provide effective support to teachers, families, and administrators.

The school psychologist plays a unique role in the life of the child and the community. The school psychologist is not only an advocate of children, but serves all those who advocate for children within the school community.
